West-Valley Mission Community College District engaged The Scion Group to conduct a Feasibility Study for student housing and employee housing at both West Valley College and Mission College. The District’s goal was to understand students’ and employees’ housing needs, preferences, cost tolerances, and overall interest in potential campus housing.
Scion’s analyses began with defining the District’s and College’s strategic objectives and reviewing the college’s data and the local off-campus markets. Next, Scion collected qualitative data through stakeholder meetings and student focus groups. An online survey, available to all students and employees, gathered the necessary quantitative data. Ultimately, the analyses concluded there is sufficient demand for both employee and student housing at both Colleges to explore financial feasibility. The Colleges and the District also demonstrated readiness to transition to a residential campus. This willingness is a crucial component of the success of first-time college housing.
Currently, Scion is supporting the District and Board of Trustees through financial feasibility testing and a possible SB169 construction application.
